AGA TODAY
AGA is a public, not-for-profit organisation limited by guarantee. Our company is run by a board of directors, who represent industry, education and local government. Most of our directors are also ‘host employers’ – in other words, they hire AGA apprentices for their business.
AGA’s business is made up of three essential services:
- Providing employment and training to apprentices
- Hiring skilled apprentices to employers to work in their business, on short or long term work placements
- Offering free advice and support to apprentices and employers through our Australian Apprenticeships Centre
The first two services (employing apprentices and hiring them to industry) are collectively called ‘group training’ and are central to everything that we do. AGA offers the best quality apprenticeships available in the following industries:
- Automotive
- Building and Construction
- Business Administration
- Electrical
- Engineering
- Plumbing
We partner with local employers and work closely with government at every level to ensure our apprenticeships meet the changing needs of Australian industry.
Our business specifically works in skill shortage trades, where the career prospects and salary ranges for qualified trades people are excellent. This ensures that our apprentices have great opportunities waiting for them when they complete their apprenticeship with AGA. In other words, genuine opportunities which lead to real, ongoing jobs – not just training courses.
AGA is one of the largest and most experienced group training organisations in Australia. Each year we employ and train more than 1200 young Australians in these trades, and arrange on-the-job hire placements for them with a local ‘host’ employer. Host employers gain skilled people for their workforce, and because the apprentices are employed by AGA, there are no administrative hassles and minimal overheads. AGA arranges the training, salary and employment requirements for each apprentice and will regularly visit both apprentice and host in the workplace.
AGA has been successfully training and employing young Australians in trade apprenticeships for over 25 years. In that time we have helped many thousands of employers to develop their own skilled workforce for the future, and seen even more young people qualify with a trade apprenticeship that will set them up for life.
