APPRENTICESHIPS

AGA offers three types of Automotive apprenticeship:

  • Light Vehicle (Cars)
  • Heavy Vehicle (Trucks, Cranes, Construction Vehicles)
  • Spare Parts Interpreter

Light vehicle mechanics typically work on cars, 4WD and utility vehicles and will be involved in servicing, brake repairs, electronic tune ups, engine reconditioning, tyre repairs, wheel balancing and alignment, diagnosis of faults and general repairs and maintenance.

Heavy vehicle mechanics learn similar skills for the repair and maintenance of trucks, buses, cranes, earthmoving and agricultural equipment.

Parts Interpreters work in dealerships and advise customers on the purchase of additional parts, and obtain these parts for technicians to install. This is an exciting, multi-skilled role which requires mechanical knowledge as well as customer service skills.

All three of these trades offer pathways into management and sales.

In addition, there is demand for Business Administration trainees in the automotive sector.

All three of these apprenticeships offer excellent career prospects and provide skills which are in demand here, interstate or overseas. Automotive apprenticeships take between 3 – 4 years to complete and involve both on-the-job work experience (with a host employer) and trade school training (delivered by AGA or your local TAFE).

AGA has automotive positions available almost year-round with some of Melbourne’s most prestigious international employers, including Subaru, Mercedes Benz, Jeep, Daimler-Chrysler and Peugeot, as well as major dealerships in regional areas.
